Swarthmore Soccer Club – Feeding Families 2020

While we know the fall of 2020 has had its fill of disappointments and frustrations, most of us can find many things to be thankful for.  Although many kids, coaches and parents hoped to play a full season of soccer, it wasn’t to be, given the circumstances.  That said, we hope everyone had a fun time getting together with their age-groups for clinics throughout September and October.  It has been great to see so many kids playing soccer with their friends and teammates on cool fall evenings.  The world needs more kids running around laughing right now.
As our clinic season ends in the next week or two, I would like to propose a challenge to each team.  Thanksgiving is fast approaching, and while we ponder how we might celebrate with our loved ones, many people, including families in our area, don’t even know if they will be able to afford a Thanksgiving meal.  The non-profit group, Every Child Counts, Inc., goes into our Delco community to provide low-income and at-risk children and families with a Thanksgiving meal.  We challenge each team to raise enough money to buy a family a turkey.  That is $30-$40 per team!  That is a donation of $3-$4 per SRA soccer family!  We encourage you to have your child “earn” his/ her donation to the team by helping around the house or doing something kind for others.  Let them be a part of the process.
Donating is easy.  Just go to https://go.teamsnap.com/forms/248708 and put in your child’s name, birth year and donation amount.  That is it!
While the SRA teams were not able to do battle against their soccer foes on the pitch this fall, we hope the teams might do battle against childhood hunger and need.
Thank you for your consideration!
