Swarthmore Recreation Association, established in 1940, is dedicated to providing quality, inclusive, recreational and sports programs for all ages and abilities. Active recreation creates a stronger, connected community and a love of healthy activity. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization governed by a rotating board of volunteer directors who serve for 3 year terms. We primarily serve the Wallingford-Swarthmore School District community although there is no residency requirement for most programming.
SRA offers recreational and sports programming for all ages, from preschool to adults, in all seasons. While many of our programs are run by volunteers supported by professional coaches and trainers, we also employ active local teens to help with sports programming and summer camps. Program ideas grow from the people we serve and we are powered by many committed volunteers who serve as board members, program directors, coaches, and team managers. In the summer, we run a popular 5-week summer day and afternoon camp that seasonally employs approximately 45 local college students and teens as assistant counselors, many in their first-ever jobs, along with teachers and teaching aids. Additionally, SRA hosts a variety of sports camps in the summer.
